Hi, I'm Kayla. Thank you for visiting my website. I'm not sure what to say here. I love playing with my friends and my big brother Mitchell (Bubbie) and my older Sister Bethany (Sissy). I love watching Sponge Bob. My Favorite color is Purple. I especially love going to school and seeing my friends where my Mom is also a substitute teacher. A few weeks ago I was your average 7-year old little girl. But then that all changed. I started having headaches. Sometimes they would be so bad that it would wake me up at night. My Mom said we had better see a Doctor because my pain wasn't normal. My Doctor did a CT Scan and saw something that shouldn't be in my brain. I call it my bump. My bump ended up being a very rare cancer called anaplastic ganglioglioma. What I'm told is that only 8 other people in the world have had this. The next thing I knew I was flying to Nashville Tennessee and underwent 3 major brain surgeries. One of the surgeries was to remove the tumor and the others were to remove infection and a part of my skull as a result of the infection. I am now beginning on my journey to beat this ugly cancer. I don't understand this.... what did I do?
***UPDATE***
Kayla and and her Mom and Dad stayed in Texas for two months while she received Proton therapy for her cancer. Proton is a form of radiation that has proved to be less invasive and more effective in many cases. Kayla was a trooper through it all and so far she is beating this! Currently (10/26/2010) Kayla just underwent a long surgery to replace her skull bone with a prosthetic and is recovering at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville Tennessee. The original piece had to be discarded due to an infection following her brain tumor surgery. In the meantime kayla has been thrilled to spend time with her classmates again and look forward to getting back to being a kid again. If you would like to send cards or other items to Kayla and her familyy please send to: Kayla Webb & Family, 29378 Flicker Lane, Dandridge, TN 37725.
