I never really dreamed that this nightmare would be mine. I have three beautiful children: Bethany, 16; Mitchell, 13; and my youngest Kayla, 7. We are just a normal family… that likes to laugh, play, and even fuss a little.
As a mom, I know that my kids are my gift from God. Of course, my husband Johnny feels the same way. Our kids are our life. I mean, really our whole life.
When I was 4 weeks pregnant with Kayla, I was in a near fatal car accident – having to go through lots of rehabilitation. In spite of the accident my pregnancy was healthy, and I went full term. Kayla was truly a miracle. Thank God, we made it through that. It made us stronger.
Now, Kayla, who was for the most part, a healthy seven year-old, has been fighting a new battle: Cancer.
It just started with headaches in the fall. By Christmas, a mass had already been removed from her head, along with part of her skull.
This all seems to have happened too fast. One minute, she was laughing. Then, the next minute, her life was hanging in the balances.
The day that she went into surgery to remove the mass, I just wanted it to be me instead of her. Watching your child suffer is painfully UNEXPLAINABLE.
